What is an LED (Light Emitting Diode)?
An LED is a solid-state semiconductor device that directly converts electrical energy into light, offering energy-efficient illumination.
What is color temperature?
Color temperature measures the color of light, expressed in Kelvins (K). Lights range from warm (around 3000K) to cool (up to 6500K), influencing the overall tone of the light emitted. See our G Light COB Tunable White LED Strip series.Â
What is CRI and why is it important?
Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures how accurately colors appear under a light source compared to sunlight. CRI is crucial for ensuring that the colors illuminated by LED strip lights are accurately represented. A CRI of 80+ is standard for most applications, while 90+ is necessary for situations requiring high color accuracy. G Light LED strip lights features 90+ CRI which are perfect for photography lighting, retail lighting, exhibits, residential lighting and more.
What is Binning?
Binning is the process of grouping LEDs during production to ensure they match in color. LEDs with similar color temperatures are binned together.
What is DC?
DC stands for Direct Current, often used in low-voltage LED strips. To power LED strips, a transformer or low-voltage battery is required to convert AC voltage to the suitable levels, usually 12V or 24V DC. G-Light has both 12V and 24V DC Power Supply and Dimmable Driver to help on your every project need.
What is AC?
AC stands for Alternating Current, the electricity commonly used in homes and commercial spaces. It is also referred to as line voltage, with variations in voltage levels across different countries. In the United States, line voltage typically ranges from 90V to 220V.
What is mA or mAmp?
Milliampere (mA) is a unit of electrical current, often used in LED strips to indicate current draw. For example, a draw of ½ amp is equal to 500mAh.
What is a Watt?
A watt is a unit of power, calculated by multiplying voltage and amperage. It measures the amount of energy consumed in an electrical circuit.
What is luminous efficacy?
Luminous efficacy is calculated by dividing lumen output by watts, indicating the efficiency of a light source.
What is LED pitch and how does it affect the type of lighting I wish to achieve?
LED pitch refers to the distance between individual chips on a strip. A shorter pitch results in more uniform light distribution and reduced spotting. Understanding pitch is essential for achieving specific lighting effects in your project.
What is the difference between 3528 LEDs v 5050 LEDs?
The numbers in LED types, such as 3528 and 5050, represent the chip size in millimeters. These chips differ in brightness and specific uses, so it's important to consider these variations when choosing LED strips.
What is solid-state lighting?
Solid-state lighting refers to lighting devices without moving parts or elements that can break, using technologies like LEDs.
What is a luminous intensity distribution diagram?
It is a test determining the angle of emitted light beams, providing insights into light distribution.
What does Fidelity Index (TM-30) mean?
Fidelity Index measures how closely observed light can render colors compared to sunlight, using 99 color samples.
Â
What does Gamut Index (TM-30) mean?
Gamut Index assesses the saturation or desaturation of colors, indicating color intensity.
What does Color vector Graphic (TM-30) mean?
Color vector graphic shows the saturation of colors and potential hue shifts in different color bins.
What does CQS - Color Quality Scale mean?
CQS is an alternative to unsaturated CRI measurements, assessing chromatic discrimination, human preference, and color rendering using 15 highly saturated colors.
What is a goniophotometer?
A goniophotometer is a photometric device used to test the luminous intensity distribution, efficiency, and luminous flux of luminaires.
What is IP and what does it stand for?
IP stands for Ingress Protection, a rating system indicating a product's resistance to solids and liquids in various environments.
What is the difference between IP65, IP67, & IP68?
IP65 is water-resistant, IP67 is water-resistant with temporary submersion protection, and IP68 is waterproof with permanent submersion protection up to 3 meters.
